Overall plan
Esthetic Aspects:
An elegant house in stone with an 'infinity' pool facing the sea and a rectangular 'peristyle' yard facing towards the mountains. On the one side the wide & undisturbed views towards southwest, west and northwest - and in the east the secluded square area - we decided to call a "peristyle" - catching the morning sun as it rises over the mountains. An additional guest studio apartment and storage room adjoins the northern side of the peristyle.
The perimeter wall provides seclusion and intimacy.
A villa with pool and separate guest studio apartment
A perimeter wall is enclosing the property, about 200m long, up to 2m high.
Our private access road towards the neighbours Gilly and Jan.
The gateway to our small community
The inner courtyard is revealed.
We call it 'Peristyle Yard'.
In the center a whispering well - its 150 year old rim slowly, steadily overflowing : An image of abundance
Guest studio apartment & storage
There is a 25m2 (net) guest room en suit and a technique/storage room at the northern end of the inner courtyard: Storage for pool & garden furniture and space for the hot water reservoir/central heating etc.
Additional storage space: The closed area below the outside staircase (see photo no. 18) & the room under the western pool terrace (pool equipment).
To the right of the technique/storage room a canvas covered pergola providing shade for the parking.
Drive towards the automatic gate - with a little gate in it
Landscape gardening
Clearly structured, newly terraced areas -
- about 300m3 of fine earth had been added.
Some of the newly planted trees came by lorry and crane.
They are more than 20 years old.
View from the window of the studio apartment
The wide studio window (2.2m)
We have a grove with citruses -
- and another with local stone-fruits-bearing trees like peach, nectarine, mirabelle, plum and apricot; in addition, in different locations, avocado & banana trees, pomegranates, laurel & jacarandas. And of course, different kind of grapes climbing the walls. Occupants of the Aloni House will have the pleasure in picking the local fruits of the season all year round.
Lavender and rosemary line the base of the pool terraces.
Oleander and pittosporum (mock orange) line the perimeter wall towards the south -
- towards the west and north it's blossoming plumbago.
Detail : Outside spotlights - all LED
Blinders are protecting terraces and rooms against the hot, lowering summer sun
Several irrigation systems are taking care of the wellbeing of the plants.
In the inner yard: 4 Photinia -
- white flowering, delicate slim trees have been planted.
In winter no canvas is covering the pergolas - while French doors allowing the sun to warm up the rooms.
In summer the shaded terraces -
- are providing cool, spacious living space and -
- views towards infinity.
All terraced surfaces around the house and pool are floored with custom cut, sandblasted and brushed 'Sunny Marble' of Egyptian origin. Same for the roof terrace and the wet floor areas in the bathrooms.
'Sunny Marble' surprises with an astonishing quality: All day exposed to the hot summer sun it hardly grows any warmer, it's staying cool.
'Sunny Marble' for drain grates and overflows
The pool is tiled with a Spanish glass mosaic on a silicon beddin (from recycled glass).
Pool & reservoir are holding about 130m3 of water. In cases of emergency the local fire brigade has access to the water.
14m long, 3.8m wide, mostly 2m deep - not to splash but to swim & exercise. Overflow at 3 the sides, an infinity edge towards the west.
We are collecting and storing rain water from the guttered roof -
- and from the roof terrace. There is a 30m3 (30.000l) water reservoir under the western pool terrace.
A room for pool-technology & storage for the garden furniture
Salt-electrolysis allows for not using germicides.
Towards the southwest -
- at the lower end of the property -
- the BBQ area.
To have a party!
Space for an outside fridge
Returning to the house - the pool shower -
- the grove with citrus fruits -
- the pool to the right -
- to the main entrance under a porch roof.
In the distance -
- the little island of Venetiko.
On its southern tip the sun will set in December.
The neighbors Jan & Gabriele - and Carthage behind the horizon
Venetiko and the peninsular mark the sunsets of all days of the year.
Gilly, neighbor to the southeast
A Sunset in October
